WASHINGTON, D.C. [08/28/19]—Today, U.S. Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) and Representative Dean Phillips (D-MN 3) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is investing more than $250,000 to Eden Prairie to develop affordable housing and economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income families.
“Having a safe, stable, affordable place to live is what makes everything in our lives work. Without housing, it is nearly impossible to keep your job, go to school and stay healthy,” said Sen. Smith, a member of the Senate Housing Committee. “We need to make sure that Eden Prairie has enough housing to support families and economic development. This grant is one step we can take right now to help make that happen.”
“As I talk with members of our community on the front lines of some of our biggest challenges – from domestic abuse advocates to opioid addition specialists and employers to educators – it is clear that having a safe place to live is the foundation on which we build a stronger, healthier and more prosperous community,” said Rep. Phillips. “I’m pleased to welcome this funding into Eden Prairie and will do everything I can to ensure that all Minnesotans have a place to call home.”

The Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
