WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing more than $10 million to modernize rural drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in Cromwell, Russell, Cosmos, Murdock, Wood Lake, and Jeffers, Minnesota.
The infrastructure improvements will be financed by the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program to help eliminate outdated pipes and service lines to safeguard public health and safety in rural communities.
“Safe drinking water and wastewater management is essential to public and environmental health,” Senator Smith said. “This investment will help six Minnesota communities make improvements to prevent water contamination and other environmental hazards. Putting real dollars behind the promise to invest in infrastructure shows Minnesotans that the federal government takes its responsibility seriously.”
“When we invest in our drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, we invest in a clean, safe environment that will benefit future generations,” Senator Klobuchar said. “This funding for the cities of Cromwell, Russell, Cosmos, Murdock, Wood Lake, and Jeffers will help protect Minnesotans’ health while creating jobs and supporting our rural economies.”
The USDA Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage. The program serves households and businesses in eligible rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less.
