WASHINGTON, D.C. [09/6/19]–U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith (D-Minn.) are urging Minnesota businesses, nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters hit by severe weather and flooding earlier this year to apply for a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan for physical damage before the September 30, 2019 deadline.
Minnesotans facing damage caused by weather from June 27 through July 7, 2019 in Dodge, Goodhue, Mower, Olmstead, Rice, and Steele counties are eligible to apply.
The senators said that businesses and nonprofits may be able to use the loan to repair or replace assets such as damaged real estate, equipment and inventory. Homeowners and renters can use the loan to repair or replace damaged real estate or personal property, including cars.
“Severe weather and flooding has delivered a major blow to communities and businesses in southeast Minnesota and across the state,” said Sen. Klobuchar. “These emergency loans will give an important boost to small businesses that suffered flood damage, and I’ll keep working to ensure that our businesses and communities have the resources they need to fully recover.”
“In Minnesota, we help each other out in tough times, and I’m glad the SBA is following suit by offering relief to Minnesotans impacted by severe weather earlier this year,” said Sen. Smith. “It’s been months since the storms hit but there’s still a lot of work left to do to help communities rebuild. If you’re facing storm and flood damage, please consider this opportunity.”
Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via the SBA’s secure website at DisasterLoan.sba.gov. Loan applications can also be downloaded at www.sba.gov. Completed applications should be mailed to: U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155. The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Sept. 30, 2019. The deadline to return economic injury applications is May 1, 2020.
