WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN), along with Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN-08), announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP) a grant of $10,252,000 for infrastructure improvements.
“When we invest in our infrastructure, we invest in opportunity for every American. Critical investments in our infrastructure serve as a down payment on the long-term economic well-being of our state and country,” Klobuchar said. “By investing in our bridges and roads in St. Louis County, we are making an important investment in the economy of the region and enhancing public safety.”
“We need to build on what’s working in rural areas and make improvements that support the prosperity of Minnesotans,” Smith said. “With this grant, St. Louis County will be able to make infrastructure investments that support public safety, health and economic opportunity for families.”
“I am incredibly happy to announce that the Department of Transportation has decided to make this critical investment in St. Louis County,” Stauber said. “Businesses and families across rural Minnesota rely on a variety of bridges to engage in commerce and safely travel to work and school. Rural Minnesota matters and I look forward to seeing this grant money help spur our local economies and ensure the success of our hardworking families.”
This grant will allow for improvements to deteriorating structural conditions of 21 bridges in northeastern Minnesota, which will also enhance public safety of the regional road networks, streamline the project delivery process, and help ensure continued economic development.
